As Texas Goes: Tools to Fight Wrongful Convictions from the Lone Star State

Location: Bowie
Date: Fri, April 8
Time: 4:15 PM - 5:30 PM

Our conference host state of Texas leads the nation in DNA and non-DNA exonerations. To the Lone Star State's credit, it also has taken the lead in creating innovative new vehicles to help attorneys identify and litigate wrongful conviction claims. The panelists will discuss the key provisions of the Michael Morton Act (which overhauled criminal discovery), the so-called "junk science/new science" writ, and the statewide Forensic Science Commission, as well as how those reforms were adopted by one of the most conservative states in the nation.
