Families of the Wrongfully Convicted Speak Out - Rebuilding Shattered Lives

Family members of the wrongfully convicted will share the physical, emotional, social, and material challenges that they faced pre- and post-exoneration of their loved ones  and what they still need now to rebuild their shattered lives, as well as the lives of their loved ones. They will also discuss the creative and resourceful strategies that are helping them productively reengage with life and cope with the consequences of wrongful conviction, e.g. posttraumatic symptoms, physical health, mental health, stigmatization, compensation, jobs, relationships, and quality of life. This session will give the family members of the wrongfully convicted an opportunity to speak out and be heard by others who may have been there and understand what they are going through, as well as by the broader audience of innocence movement activists and advocates providing support and assistance to the wrongfully convicted and working to promote social justice and criminal justice reform.
