Investigations Done Right: Avoiding Pitfalls, Staying the Course, and Getting the Evidence

Location: Maverick
Date: Sat, April 9
Time: 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM

Witnesses are key to any non-DNA exoneration-- recanting witnesses, witnesses who have suppressed the truth, true perpetrators who have hidden behind a convicted innocent person. Meet two investigators who have gotten the truth and kept their witnesses from backtracking under government pressure. Learn techniques for approaching witnesses, how to corroborate (or challenge) witness accounts, the importance of gaining information before making that first call or visit, and how to keep a witness engaged and on Team Innocence all the way through exoneration. Kate Germond has been finding and working with witnesses since 1987 with Centurion Ministries and has freed dozens of innocent men and women. Nick Kato is the staff investigator with the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, and a career criminal investigator who works with attorneys and students finding truth through investigations.
